I think it depends on the industry and the employees you are overseeing. If it is a manufacturing industry and the employees are not very self-motivated, then you would probably want to use Theory X. If you are dealing with a highly creative industry with people who are very self-motivated, Theory Y would be more appropriate. I personally would prefer to use Theory Y since I believe workers are intrinsically motivated and do not need a manager breathing down their necks constantly.

If the main point is to ask our opinion about the two letters, I would prefer Theory Y, because it sounds better, more friendly and personal, not mean. "X" sounds like I'm a secret-agent or something. And it suggests I'm too formal; my life is limited within the company. AND, it brings unpleasant memories of math to mind.

If that is not the main point, can you tell us what the two theories are? I have no idea.

I would choose theory "y."
According to calculations theory "X" would not work anyway.
Theory Y holds the firm can do many things to harness the motivational energy of its employees.
