In addition to the info presented by others. There are a few other areas of study that you can pursue to work in juvenile justice. Criminology would be one. Youth development would be another. Recreation therapy would be a third. Each opens up different doors and depend on some of your strengths and interests. I would suggest you talk to some folks who work in juvenile justice (maybe through the course you are taking now in H.S.). You might also talk to a psychologist, a social worker, etc. DA

A couple of things you should probably consider. If you want to be a social worker at a juvenile justice centre, you would be better getting a social work degree than a psychology degree. You might also consider getting a certificate or a diploma as a youth care worker or taking criminology. Those might lead to working in such a centre. As far as clinical psychology, it takes a LONG time to get a degree - four years just to get your undergraduate degree and then you have to go to graduate school for another 4-6 years. Also, getting into grad school in clinical psychology is extremely competitive. It's like getting into medical school. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

I have a B.A. in psych. Social Work usually requires an undergrad as well and a degree in psych can set you up well for it. However to get into a social work program it is a bit less competetive than a M.A. or PhD. in clinical psychology (trust me, it really is worse than med school), it is still competitive (so make sure your GPA gets up there, hire a tutor if you have to). I would also look into some programs that offer a PsyD, which is a lot like a PhD but with more clinical emphasis... but be careful, not all programs are created equal.
