What are the chances of this? I'm taking my 17 year old friend who's never shot a firearm of any sort shooting next weekend. And he said that he could hit a target from 100 yards away because "he has lots of practice with paintball guns an BB guns" haha. The thing is that I called him out on a bet the second after he said that. I said that I'd give him $20 if he could hit the strike zone of a target after a full clip (10rds). Am I gonna lose $20? I mean its even hard for ME to make that shot and I have alot of experience...

Alot of you are asking gun details... it's the new gen Glock 17 (thats a 9mm for you amateurs). I lightened the trigger pull by a lb and a half on it as well. AND ONCE AGAIN IM NOT TALKING ABOUT BB OR PAINTBALL.

I am a very experienced shooter(certified NRA pistol expert) and it is very difficult to hit at 100 yards with a handgun. I think your $20 is safe. Just remember that safety must always come first.
Have fun but be careful.

Possible but improbable. It also depends on the type of gun and the size of the target. I shot some 100yd pistol competitions with my 8"bbl .44 mag. Think I got about 10 out of 25 8x10 steel plates at that distance. At 25yds, I can hit 25 out of 25 bowling pins.

IF he actually knows what he's doing and can judge where each shot goes and makes corrections, and IF the gun is somewhat consistent, he may be able to hit a target at 100yds. Again, the size of the target is the key.

You might want to set aside $20 bucks. With a full mag to try with, it shouldn't be too hard to guestimate distance and windage. I had a Polish P-64 in 9X18 Makarov. A friend had set up a steel target about 75 yd.s away that we had been clanging with rifles. Before I left, I half-jokingly said I could hit it with a 3" bbl. pistol. He said 'never happen'. I said listen for the clang. So I aimed, then raised the sights up over the target> I couldn't see it with the little gun aimed high. I squeezed a shot off and ~Clang~! His jaw almost fell off his face! I was not as surprised as he was. An amateur can sometimes do amazing things if they don't know it's really hard to do.
With 10 rd.s to try, I'd take that bet and your money.

Virtually any well made handgun with decent sights in the hands of a practiced shooter can hit a 2x2 target at 100 yards. I do it regularly with my Blackhawk in .45 Colt.

Stastically it is possible...practically probably not. Experience in slow projectile weapons aren't that bad, but he should not make the shot based on skill alone. Lucky shots can't be counted out! 85% miss 10% hit 5% unknown value.
