I am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant and was planning to work up until I delivered due to finances. Unfortunately I had a fetal fibronectin test come back positive at around 32 weeks so I was put on bedrest at that time and had to stop working. Although I have been uncomfortable with the lack of income being off of work has really helped me enjoy the pregnancy and get rest I may never see again. I think the earliest you can take maternity leave the better. I would love to know how you are able to stay out of work for a year. I am so jealous. ;o)

I had to go on Maternity leave much earlier than planned because work cut my hours and I wouldn't have qualified for paid leave if I kept working at the reduced hours. So l left just around 8 months.
I regret not leaving sooner. I didn't realise just how much pain I was in, particularly my abdomen until I stopped working.
Then again then my paid leave would have stopped earlier. FYI I didn't return to work.

I think if you feel fine, work for as long as you can. I think after the baby comes, either mom or dad should be home with baby for at least 2 years, until preschool age. No one else can take care of your baby like you will. I'm speaking from experience, having returned to work when my baby was only 4 weeks old. I would never do that again, nor would I advise anyone else to. Find a way to stay home, and you'll never regret it.

I worked until the last minute. I took leave. I was going to return after the 6 weeks, but I just stayed with the baby until he was like 8 months.

I was waiting on a table when my water broke, so my maternity leave started at the same time .
