To keep the alcohol, pharmaceutical, law enforcement, and textile lobbies happily contributing to polticicans.
There is NO way to make tax money off marijuana - one person can grow enough in one 5 gallon container for themselves and four of their chronic friends. Anyone with half a brain can grow a plant that has a current retail value comparable to gold. The simple reason the alcohol and tobacco industries are not foiled by home-crafters is that you need to have the resources of at least a farm, and probably a factory to satisfy a drinker or a smoker, but a pothead doesn't need any of that, and can be happy all year long with only one plant.

It should be legalized and treated like alcohol. You would need an ID to buy it, be 21 and have the same legal consquences as alcohol. No, smoking and driving, etc. And whether its legal or not does not mean a mass exodus of potheads. Alcohol is legal and not everyone is a bunch of drunks, teenagers aren't flocking to liquor stores. But we all no it won't be legalized because of the narrow minded. And if it were, that 20 million would only go to something else that isn't needed. I heard that they might try to tax beer to reduce underage drinking. What a bunch of morons.

My first inclination was to say - Probably because they haven't figured out how to make money off of it yet.
I do think that Marajuana can be dangerous when used by those who are too young and can be a drug that leads into other more dangerous drug use....but so does smoking and drinking sometimes...
It might be interesting to find out how other countries deal with marajuana use and how much money they spend compared to other issues that they fund...

it was originally made a law to keep Mexicans out of our country. this is not a lie, I saw it on "history of drugs" on the history channel. Look it up, you will see im correct. Not to mention all the propaganda the gov. had to use to get this passed. its very sad, I think pot is ok for moderate use, way better than having millions of drunks driving around. I've never seen a violent "pot-head"

marijuana should not be legalized. that 20 billion dollars has saved many stupid teens from trying it and ruining thier lives with addictions!!! marijuana is an extremely addictive drug and it can lead to an addiction after one use, even if it is used lightly.
