Accupuncture is amazing technology.
Acupuncture has been used for the last 500-600 years.
It used needles in the 705 accupuncture points on the body.
the needles either stimulate the flow of ch'i (lifeforce energy) or block the vlow of ch'i.
A few years ago I used accupuncture on about 65-70 points to stimulate the urinary bladder, triple heater, and colon meridians when those merdicians were not working correctly.
A friend of mine had hurt his back and he was in excruciating pain and was taking percodans (SP). He lost his insurance, and could not afford the pain meds. I recommended accupuncture. Two sessions and no more back pain.

My younger daughter had a serious case of TMJ when she was young.
You should check out what your dentist has to say. If you grind your teeth there might be a way to deal wiith it. I know that dental work is used for TMJ. This was not the case with my girl.
She did Physiotherapy which really helped. The therapist massaged her jaw from inside the mouth which was amazing. She had a little machine on it for awhile. Then she did biting exercises. She also did neck exercises.
After a few treatments it stopped.
It came back when she was older but the removal of her wisdom teeth handled that.
It has never come back.
Doctor, Dentist, Physiotherapist. Check it out. And I would imagine that acupuncture could relieve the pain but best to find the source of the pain first.

I have had TMJ a few times over the years. I have gone the rout of going to the dentist and getting the guards. For the most part they are a waist of money and they take months to work.
The last time I have the problem I went to a chiropractor (make sure he is a good one and not a scam artist) and he adjusted the joints in my mouth. I only needed two treatments and the problem and all of the pain was gone.
If this problem is caused for grinding the teeth at night at the pharmacy they have mouth guards that you can mold to your mouth all you have to do is get the right size. In Canada they cost around $30 and if you go to the dentist their mouth guard cost $200 plus two to three visits.
Now it you do all of this and the problem does not go away then I would take her to the dentist

I've had acupuncture treatments in the past with great success, however I've never tired TMJ. Sorry I have no idea what your talking about. If it's a dis-ease then acupuncture with the use of herbs will help. Find a Chinese herbalist who does pulse diagnosis.

I have a friend who swears by it. She has been through the guards ( she broke it while sleeping). She has been doing acupunture for a couple of weeks- after the first treatment she could tell the difference. Give it a try- it can't harm you.

try it -- you can always move on to another therapy.
my TMJ treatments included surgery, adjusting my bite (actually had my teeth ground to different shapes) and finally massage therapy.
the massage therapy is the only thing that has given me lasting help.
