Alex earns $600 per month plus 4% of all his sales over $1000. Find the minimum sales that will allow Alex to earn at least $3000 per month.

First put it into mathematics language...

Alex earns 600 + (0.04*(Sales - 1000))

Then you want to find out when this will be 3000
600 + (0.04*(S - 1000)) = 3000 (solve for S using the reverse of
PEMDAS)

1. Get rid of things that are Added or Subtracted
(0.04*(S-1000)) = 2400 (subtracted 600 from both sides)
2. Get rid of things that are Multiplied or Divided
(S - 1000) = 60000 (divide both sides by 0.04)
3. Since there are no exponents to get rid of we move on to parenthesis.
S = 61000 (Add 1000 to both sides)
So Alex has to sell at least $61,000 per month in order to earn at least $3000 per month.

alex would have to earn $2400 in commisions 0.04 x = 2400 2400/.04=$60,000
