It depends on the group home. I lived in three different ones. The first one I was in for about a year and 3 months, and it helped me quite a bit. The second one, I lasted 3 weeks before I ran away. (It's hard to be the only white girl in a home full of girls from the streets of philly .. I ran away). The third one I stayed exactly one weekend .. it turns out I'm allergic to bed bugs, and I'm also allergic to the cortisone cream the ER used to combat the bite allergy. I sat in the CPS office and told them to find me a home where I won't get eaten alive. They did first thing the next morning, but left me on the streets for the night ... I was 16 and pregnant. Nice huh?

Anyway my point is that some group homes are good, and some are not so good. I wish you the best. Call your friend's mom and see what she can tell you.

It is all dependent upon the group home.
Some allow visiting and phone calls. Others do not.
It also depends on why your friend was sent there.
Quite often kids are sent to a group home because they are having some sort of difficulty at home. The idea is to offer a stable environment to meet the child's needs.

You'll probably be able to visit, and call. Depending on why your friend was sent there. Group homes are places that people go. Sometimes for behavioral problems, sometimes for mental problems, and sometimes for people who are being abused in their homes. Don't worry so much. Group homes aren't bad places. Just calm down, okay.

Some are like jails, but, with more leniency. Others are like apartments with many rooms. There is someone to watch over them but not as a jailer. Like a social worker. They are there to protect them from themselves more than from other people. She won't be allowed contact for the first few weeks. All Friends are considered accomplices to the behavior that put her there. So you shouldn't even try. The harder you try to contact her the more you will be held at bay. Give her time to be deprogrammed. She will contact you if you are indeed a positive influence in her life.

I know you can leave for certain hours but you have to be back on time . You got to go to school, do chores and home work. You can visit on the weekends usually and she can call you if its her time to use the phone.

It depends on the home...a lot of them run classes and stuff...like counseling...

And, it is other kids there with different issues...
Some of them are homes...and some of them
are buildings....

But, it depends of them home...and how they run it determines if you can send letters or call...

But usually they have hours that you can call...and they usually allow letters...
