You won't get a very convincing acoustic guitar sound out of an electric. Not without alot of money, anyways. If you need something to sound like an acoustic, but be able to easily amplify it, get an acoustic-electric. If you don't have an electric guitar, though, don't expect to be able to get a good electric guitar sound out of the acoustic-electric. Just go with whichever you need more.

It depends on what sound you're trying to get. If you're trying to get an amped acoustic sound, then go for the acoustic with the electric works and pickup installed. If you're trying to get more of a jazz sound, get a hollow body electric. How much are you willing to spend?

It all depends on the style of what you want to play. You can get different sounds with both and features. I play both and they are actually totally different to some degree, just figure out which you prefer.
