im 33 weeks pregnant, and starting to wash all the baby clothes that i have up to 6 months old. they should be washed b/c some clothes are softer after being washed, and some of the fabrics may irritate the babys skin before being washed. you also have to make sure to use a very mild detergent. theres one that they make called "Dreft" and its made just for babies clothing. i guess its all up to you though. i want to wash her clothes b/c some are used, and even the ones that arent had everybodies hands all over them at the store and baby shower. so, ultimately its your choice. Good luck and God bless!!

It's a good idea, but don't take the tags off all your new stuff and wash it, do a few things you will need right away, then go as you plan to use them. If you think you are having a girl, and *surprise* you leave hospital with a boy (which is certainly not unheard of) then you just cost yourself a lot of money in clothes you cannot return. Even if that's not a problem, sometimes you don't use stuff, so you could always go exchange for something else. They grow so fast I would often find a cute outfit my daughter never wore that was 2 sizes too small in the back of a drawer....

Yes, you should wash clothes, linens and all before the baby uses them. In fact, you should wash anything new before it's worn, be it for a baby, a child, or an adult.
There could be chemicals on new clothing put there to help them maintain a crisp look while sitting on the shelves or hanging on the rack. We wash anything new before any of us wear it, just to be on the safe side.

Sometimes clothes have some chemicals on them to make them stay crisp looking in the packaging. Sometimes clothes have too much dye as well, which can get on the skin.
Realistically I don't really know, but I do for my clothes and for my baby's. I also usually soak heavily coloured items in cold water with vinegar overnight because it is supposed to set the colour... does it? Beats me. Soaking them at least gets the dye out into water rather than all over the other clothes in the wash.

Yes, they are packed in things that could have chemicals on them and irritate the babies skin. You should wash all the clothes and linens in a mild detergent like dreft or all or Ivory. Good luck.

You really should, because of all of the chemicals in clothing and bedding. It irratates Baby's skin and can cause horrid rashes.
Use a baby-compatible washing detergeant and wash once,or you can just use water but you'd have to wash 2-3 times.

Yes. Get some Dreft or Ivory Snow to wash them in. You will want to have all of that done before baby gets here. You'll want to make sure that the clothes you bring to the hospital for baby to wear home are also washed up.

Yes it is recommended you wash all linen and clothing. You don't know who handled them before you received them. Germs can travel and you need to be protective of the baby.

I don't know if it's necessary. My mom thought it was just plain silly. But, because of the chemicals and residue from making the clothes I felt better safer than sorry.
It was a good call on my part because my son had ecezema. So, anything and everything irritated his skin. Even if I used regular tide he'd break out!!

It's not absolutely necessary, but you may want to so they are softer. New, unwashed clothes tend to be stiff and scratchy. I washed all mine because I loved the smell of the detergent! I use ALL Baby & it smells like Baby Magic Original Scent lotion. (I use it on my little boy.) It's not necessary to use baby detergent, either, but I had to have that smell. It's way cheaper than Dreft, too.
