I have used every name brand face wash and it dries me out so bad my skin peels. Tried proActive and broke out even worse than before. I saw my dermatologist who put me on Triaz, minocycline, and the highest perscription cream. I either would break out on my chin and be peeling on my forehead or vice versa. I have even tried only washing my face with a warm/cold facecloth and still no change. I'm on the pill and my acne doesn't change when I'm on my period. I have run out of ideas and need help. I'm 20 years old...I need to get a handle on this problem...it is really affecting my life!!! Some one please help me.

I am on doxycycline, benzoyl peroxide, retin-A, and clinamyacin, and I wash my face with neutrogena. I also have the problem with the dryness, and I use cetaphil every hour to stop it. Since I have started doing this, I can put on my prescriptions when I'm supposed to and it is really helping. Moisturize and use everything.

Are you under a lot of stress? That'll have a hand in your acne.

I had extremely bad acne until I was 21. I tried proactive and other prescriptions and they never worked. But at the same time, I was really stressed out. And with my mom passing a year ago, my skin was terrible( I don't mean 2 pimples, I'm talking acne ALL OVER my face). So I understand your plight.

Anyway, I used this cleanser called AcneFree from Walgreens and my face has never been clear my whole life until now. (I bought AcneFree in March of 06 and I still have plenty of it left and the bottles aren't that big). Even when I do breakout, it's only one or two pimples and they're really small. I recommend that. Try it and see how it works.

Also, I stopped eating a lot of junk food and fast food since my mom's passing, so diet also affects your skin as well as your overall health. Drinking water and apple cider vinegar did wonders for my skin since they flushed out all the toxins in my body.

I also heard people tell me that they get to a certain age when their acne slows down. I've probably hit my age and I'm 22. So maybe it's something more genetically controlled.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:
