I am really interested in being a foriegn exchange student but have a hit a couple problems.
1.I know my parents love me, but they tend to be just a tad bit overprotective. I need a way to prove to them that this would be a good experiance for me. If anyone knows of any good statistical websites please help!
2. The price....I make straight A's, and am in all Pre-Ap courses, but somehow i dont think that will be enough to pay for these 8,000 dollar courses...if you know of any org. that offer scholarships please let me know.
thanks!

I went to Japan through Youth For Understanding.

To answer your first question, an exchange program is one of the safest ways to travel. YFU called my host family all the time to check on me, and they screened them thoroughly beforehand.
Exchange makes you very open-minded and understanding.. not to mention: it looks great on a college application!

As for the price.. it is very expensive! That doesn't mean you'll have to pay for it, though. There are many scholarships through YFU. With your excellent school record, you are a shoe-in! (After all, I, with my 3.2 GPA, managed to get one!)

You should talk to the organizers of the program or your school counselor and see if you can meet with some other students who've studied abroad so you can hear about their experiences. Maybe if your parents meet these students too it will help them to be more comfortable with you doing this. Also, you should try to find out as much as possible about where you'll be staying, what you'll be doing, who will be supervising you, etc. so you can give your parents all of that information as well.
Your school counselor will also probably be able to help you find information about scholarships for study abroad programs.
Good luck! I did a study abroad in Italy last year and it was a great experience. It's definitely worth it.

Here is another option which you may want to consider: study abroad during college. You sound like you are a college-bound person, and I would greatly recommend studying abroad your junior year of your undergraduate studies. I did this as well (I went to Germany). This will give you ample time to study the language at home, find out the program costs, and plan accordingly. You will also be older, more independent, and wiser. What is often wonderful about studying abroad while in college is it costs no more than what it normally would to study at home. I attend UC Santa Cruz and my year in Germany was actually cheaper than a typical year in Santa Cruz.

Think about it and good luck! Studying abroad is an excellent experience and you should do it no matter what!

No, you do no longer could bypass with a application that your college must be a forex pupil. there are a number of different courses for all and sundry. the super 3 are YFU, AFS, and Rotary. Rotary is the main suitable yet in addition the main inexpensive. maximum courses allow you to pass with the rustic you desire to be a forex pupil in, ask them ahead of time. To host a forex pupil does require paying some funds yet once you finally end up being a forex pupil with YFU it supplies you a chit. desire this helps!
