ISO 8601 states that Monday is the first day of the week, making Sunday the seventh. ISO 8601 is an international standard for date and time representations. "ISO" standards help the world communicate better.

For example, Europe and many other forward moving countries follow ISO 8601 and the Metric system which ultimately promote better global communications and therefore relations.

Despite the obvious benefits of these global standards, the U.S. has failed to adopt these standards because it does not perceive an urgent need or significant financial upside or downside to justify adopting these standards. The U.S. is poised in a reaction state as opposed to a proactive mind set which reveals a weakness or crack in the very foundation of this great country. The lack of corporate Pension plans, Social Security plans, Medicare/Health care Plans....the list goes on...shows that the U.S. needs to change it's selfish mindset or else face significant consequences which may prove overwhelming and ultimately devastating to everyone's lifestyle. The U.S. lacks enlightened leaders with true wisdom because our very society conditions these positive traits out of people...it's kind of a catch 22.
