The American Indian Movement (AIM) was awesome!

It brought together Native people. There had been internal sectioning between traditionalists and urban indians, also between people who were not full blood indians and those who were. The movement brought together Native people from all "categories".

It gave Native people a voice. People around the world learned about the struggles, rights, and desires of Native people.

It gave Native people empowerment. This was during the civil movement era. Many people were fighting for their rights. So were Natives. It was empowering to be able to make decisions for themselves and not to have the government be forcing them into everything (as had been done previosally).

It brought together other people too. For example many "hippies" worked with people from the American Indian movement. The Black Panthers helped out AIM. It united the struggles of different people.

If you want to know more details there is one really great article that explains it all. It is titled "We AIM Not to Please" by Mary CrowDog (She has a couple last names, i think this is the one she uses).

P.S. I am a Native Woman (and I don't know what this other person is talking about, we certainly did have achievements from AIM). Many Native youth look up to former members of AIM as sorta heroes, it gives them hope, helps them feel that they can fight oppression today.

There is no achievements from the AIM movement. That movement is a White mans movement to make the Indigenous people American.

All the Indigenous people wanted during this time was to have their lands back and for America to stop breaking treaties hence, the phrase America, the land of Broken Treaties.

We have two types of historical accounts in America 1. History written by the White man. 2. History that actually happened.
