it's Mel's very own, very historically inaccurate, very ethnocentric version of the collapse of Maya civilization (and subsequent, sudden fast-forward several hundred years to the arrival of the Spanish as the 'saving' of Mesoamerica... sigh)

Lost in Translation- It portrays Japanese culture through the eyes of two Americans who meet on the island. It is humorous because one can relate as an American, but a native of Japan may interpret the motives of the film differently.
