allright. your female betta should be in at least a 5 gallon, heated and filtrated aquarium. your water should contain NO ammonia, NO nitrites, And NO nitrates. it takes one entire month for water levels to become to an ideal fishies status. you should change 25% of the water once every week. go to a pet store, get your pH, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates checked.

When bettas float around at the top, they are unhappy...or dying. Bettas live on average in captivity for around 2 years, and that is in ideal conditions.

My betta does that all the time.It is a natural thing I think. He has done that ever since I got hima about a month ago.Dont worry he is ok or so I hope.If she still moves around the tank and doesnt stay on top all the time...shes ok.Check the water Temp. sometimes if the water temop is too low they wont move around alot.

it could be water quality -- as in you don't change the water enough.

it could also be swim bladder problems if the betta stays kind of sideways.
