When discussing any matter concerning the Catholic Church I wish all members realized that catholicism is governed by DOGMA, which simply means a body of doctrines concerning faith and morals and authoritatively proclaimed by the church.
As one Bishop said to me while playing golf, " We have rules. If somebody doesn't like the rules they can easily LEAVE the church".
And of course many millions have done just that. Some statistician said that out of those that were born catholic, only 4% attend church regulalry. And of the priests that were graduated from seminaries, fewer than 40% remain. Rome, for example is swarming with ex-priests (as our guide mentioned the last time I visited there).
So one of the catholic "rules" about sex is that it should be only done to make babies and never prevented by any artificial means.
The basic reason for this is quite obvious. The church can only grow if NEW RECRUITS are born and birth control acts in precise opposition to that strategy.
Personally I think we have NO RIGHT to criticize any church from making its own rules. We may not want to be a part of them but they have every right to choose their doctrines.
As humans, however we do have the right to choose our behaviour, provided that we do no harm to another individual. And I cannot imagine the Architect of the Universe providing us with the strongest emotion in the body and then wanting or expecting us to restrain from expressing that emotion.
Women have made that crystal clear when the invade the catholic church parking lots during mass and plaster every bumper with a sticker saying:
KEEP YOUR ROSARIES OUT OF OUR OVARIES !
So far the Panzer Pope has paid no head to their declaration !

The Catholic Church is not promoting AIDS. It is promoting chastity just like it has for the last 2,000 years.
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.
If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?
People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).
Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.
In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.
With love in Christ.

Because they believe that we should all just say "No." It has always been their position and it will never change. Considering the way the world had progressed in the last 40 years...they may have a point but it does not mean it will work.

The Catholic Church feels that handing out millions of free condoms so that people can have safe sex with random people to celebrate the coming of Lent is wrong, and I agree. Obviously, people shouldn't be doing it. The problem is people will have sex, and keeping them from AIDS is also important.

But the church is against birth control and "preaches abstinence from sex before marriage."
Does the second part of the sentence bother you?
