Juventina.. I think they are randomly tested. However, the biotech industry is a very profit-oriented industry(like any other industry) and is growing much faster than the tests. Currently, gene doping is a hot topic of controversion in the athletic/biomedical field as it involves the non-therapeutic modulation of gene expression to improve athletic performance. This is difficult as it is difficult to detect. Major histocompatibility factors(MHC 1's especially) do not express this when gene doping is introduced and this makes it difficult becuase many doping tests rely on this. In order for doping to truly be effective it would require the tests to evolve at the same rate as the substances which is basically impossible using current technology. This means many athletes will do whats necessary to gain the advantage so they dont get caught. Once a test becomes sensitive enough, they move on to a different substance.
Michael Ballack: Yes they are tested for doping and there are plenty of loopholes to get around of them if you are creative. No current test is 100% sensitive, meaning assuming the person has doped that the test would indicate a positive result or no test is 100% specific, meaning assuming the athlete has not engaged in doping, the test would indicate a negative result.. There are false test results in other words(ie. no current test is 100% accurate). And theres plenty of developing performance enhancing drugs that are not being tested yet.

I'm not 100% on this. But I think one player from a team is randomly selected once a month.

I don't think they're ever tested for doping cuz if they were, doping wouldn't exist and we see it everyday!
