I think it's a great sound. The instrumentation and arrangement are amazing. Also the vocals are as well.
Then you have the lyrics. You combine that with the story behind the song and it becomes more than just a song.
I think it was a great choice. Every time I hear it I get chills. Not because of the political garbage, but the words and music just go right through me. None of the other songs have that impact.
That's just my opinon.

I lost respect for the Grammy's. There was so much good music out there, and that was not the Dixie Chick's best at all. Political Messages yield a Grammy. Green Day had much better stuff out there before they got super-political, but guess when they got all the awards?
Gnarls and James Blunt both got snubbed, big time. And if you want to go on talent, Corinne Bailey Rae destroy them too.

Considering the voting is done by the artists, producers and others in the music community it could be a little of both. It is a very good song simply because of what if came out of...and because of what it came out of and the grief they got for it, maybe the music community is showing them they are standing beside them now. Something they were scared to do when it happened. They got death threats for saying something about the president. In this country we have the freedom of speech and I feel quite certain that some of those who destroyed their Cd's, tore up their concert tickets and pulled their music from their stations are now singing a different frigging tune... I lost my brother on 9/11 and my two nephews in Iraq because they didn't want their fathers death to be in vain. If they knew then what we know now they would have never went on the wild goose chase this idiotic lying *** president calls his war on terrorism...
Save your death threats for me...cancer is taking care of that for you. I have 3 months tops. So if you have a problem with what I'm saying...BITE ME!!!

I think that anyone who got upset over the Dixie Chicks' statements and songs are complete morons who shouldn't be allowed to spend their money on music, act like they're fans of it, and then wind up throwing it away due to freedom of expression. They deserve the award.

It wasn't a bad song, but I think that Mary J Blige's song and Corrine Rea's song's were much better. I would like to hope it is because they thought it was the best song of the five, and has nothing to do being political.

Great Choice. Way to go. Maybe it was a political statement...but so what. Lots of music over the years has been political. Lots of great 1960s music during Viet Nam.

I think the Dixie Chicks are pretty awful, I can't stand listening to them. I'm not sure who the other nominees were, but whatever.

Yeah the only reason it won is because it is anti-Bush and that always creates controversy. It's not even that good of a song!
