It could be alot of reason. Most likely its the coverage you choose.

IE:

You have coverage for you and family members, and he just has coverage for himself.

You choose coverage for additional areas like prescription, dental, ect that your coworker didn't choose.

You need to ask your HR department this....
It could be because your coworker selected a different tier of benefits, etc.
But I'll tell you, don't go in there and say "Munya pays 20$ for health ins and I pay 50 and I want to know why!", just say "someone said they pay 20 and I'm wondering if I can get that deal, too!" start it off that way.

neither... what matters is if other people are covered under the insurance like a spouse or children. also if you had a choice of plans maybe you just chose a different plan from that person. for example, hmo is more expensive because there is less out of pocket expense. ppo is less expensive but they have to pay more in copayments and maybe even doctor's bills.

There could be a lot of reasons for this. Do you have anyone else added to your insurance? It could also depend on what insurance plan you took and the one your co-worker took. If you are really concerned about this I would talk to your employer about it.

There could be any number of variable here, including precisely what features each of you is paying for.

However, this is confidential information. Don't go asking your coworker this question and don't go trying to get it from HR either. It's none of your business.

Are you carrying yourself or your spouse and family? your coworker may only be paying to cover him/her self. Family or Partner insurance tends to cost a bit more.

Maybe he is paying for "employee only" and you are paying for "family" coverage. Or maybe there is a level of care that is optional.
Ask your human resource person.

It depends on dependents and on the health plan you selected.
