The term "Superpower" has probably seen its day. Back when the US and Russia were both engaged in the cold war each of these nations were called a "superpower". Both had the ability to destroy all life as it is known on our planet, both could project military power to any spot or place in the world, both had the economic power to dictate to some nations what was best for them to do. But this was in the past and today is much different. Both these nations still have most of the same abilities but they are not looked on nor act as they once did. Today China has none of these abilities and may not ever achieve the status these nations once held. I really doubt any nation, including these two, will ever hold the position once held by the US and the Soviet Union. In most of our lifetimes China will never be able to tell anything to Russia or control in any way what Russia wants, China is depends on Russia. In Asia around China it will be the power but that is because there are only small nations. China has the population to be the largest power in the world but their government is more interested in making money with a side effect that destroys the country. There will probably never be a "superpower" like the ones of old and China will for sure never make it to the place the old powers held. China today has not shown the ability to lead the world, it is a follower buying and stealing all the new technology it uses. People here that say as they are told never talk about the new technology coming out of China, never talk of the new inventions, China has new technology for China but this is the same technology other nations developed years before China produced it. Edit: A good example of the reason China (CCP) is following the rest of the powers is just what DL has said. She says China is launching rockets, missiles, stealth aircraft and talks of the Chinese economy. Everything she brags on another nation developed years ago. The stealth aircraft were developed 12 to 15 years ago and China got hers from the Russians and the Europeans during the conflict in Europe. China is developing rockets to go to the moon where the other nations went more than 40 years ago, today the US tested their space vehicle that will take men to Mars and the asteroids. I am not saying this trying to put the Chinese down just to show the facts of when these things happened. The US is now building ships with rail guns, sometimes in the future when China buys or steals this technology she will do the same thing. The US has a rover on Mars now sending information back every day, one day China will land something on Mars. There are men in the world who have started programs to go to the moon, private men not governments, these men will be there when China gets there. To brag about what a country does when some man does the same thing leaves a big doubt about what the true abilities of this country is. If anybody wants to brag on their government, the first thing they should brag on is how well their government takes care of the people of their country. DL many of us have spent time in China and know first hand about the poor and needy, can you enlighten us about what the CCP has done and is doing for the needy in China? As for the propaganda coming from you, does it do any good? Has it helped the people of China any at all? Why do the Chinese people have to get on a White House web site to complain about their government? But as for a super power, a superpower can project its will world wide so far the CCP are still having problems projecting their will to their neighbors. They have not projected their will to any continent outside their borders and are having a hard time doing this to the poor weak nations neighboring them. I do not see anything in any of these answers that support the term "Superpower" as far as being applied to China.

Does China have several official languages? I thought they spoke Cantonese in Hong Kong? Regardless, if I need to learn the language, I will.
By the way, do they have to drop a nuke in order to be considered a Super Power?
