we have a well with frozen pipes - underground... don't know how to "thaw"

call a local plumber he will have a welder or similar that he can hook to your water line to thaw it out. Frost line in Wisconsin has to be close to what Michigan is, here it is 3 feet. So I'd guess you'd be at least that, maybe more. Sad part is if you can't get to the pipe you can't thaw it out. I'd leave this one to a pro.

The frost line in that part of the country is about 6 feet deep.

Normally, at least 4-6 feet. With the extremely cold weather we have been having, even that is not really enough. Our well is fine, but all of our outside waters froze down in the pipes.

As for unthawing them- your guess is as good as mine.

I live near Appleton, so it is east centeral, but it should be about the same.

Call the well driller he can fix you up. There is a really good one near Madison.Good work at a reasonable price.
