I wouldnt let it get to high, because it could lead to convulsions. Giving a child tylenol just masks the symptoms. A fever is a sign their is something wrong inside. Something as simple as the flu or as bad as an infection of some sort. I would call the hospital ER and ask what they suggest you should do. Good Luck. Hope he/she gets better soon.

Parents often want to know whether to call a doctor when a child has a fever. In general, get medical help if your child:
Is weak, tired, or lethargic
Has trouble breathing
Is under 3 months of age
Has a stiff neck
Has purple spots on the skin
Has a seizure
Has a fever over 103 degrees Fahrenheit
Has a fever that persists longer than 24 hours even with treatment, or is accompanied by other symptoms (like vomiting)
I personally would give Motrin at 101* because I know they just don't feel good. And I would call the doctor in the morning.

I usually only give tylenol/motrin when it is over 103 unless he is feeling absolutely miserable. The fever is good because it just means your body if fighting off the infection. Also depending on how high the fever is and how old your child is the younger the child the more they can tolerate the fever. If I had a fever of 103 I would most likely be feeling miserable but kids seem to do alright with it!

it depends on how old the child is.
young children tend to run pretty high fevers but are fine.
i usually medicate my kids (ages 4,5,and7) with any fever over 100.5-it helps them to feel better and allow them to be up and about like they want to be.
children's motrin works best for reducing fever. follow the dosage given on back of the box (based off of weight and age). you can alternate it with children's tylenol every 6 hours as needed.
anything over 104 requires a phone call to the dr. fevers this high can be dangerous and in some cases can cause seizures.
try these things to help lower the fever and make your child feel better
-give a lukewarm bath (this will help lower the fever and ease any body aches)
-apply a cool washcloth to the forehead
-give popsicles to suck on
-drink plenty of fluids

If it is 101 and below let it go fever fights infections. If it goes above give a childrens fever reducer, if it hits 103 put the kid in a lukewarm bath and start cooling them down, call the doctor.

got some great answers here. i had a dutch pediatrician when my daughter was small, and she would also advise taking a cotton ball, in some rubbing alcohol and run it down the child's back to get the fever a little lower so the child is comfortable and can sleep.
good luck, hope the little one feels better soon..
