First of all, get triple AAA incase something happens to your car. Service your vehicle before you go as well and have it checked to see if it needs any major maitenence for the long drive.

Bring, money, a phone with a car charger, snacks incase a town looks a bit risky to stop in, a phone card incase something happens to your cellphone, clothes, toiletries, a friend?, and expect that there will be a tire blow out or something!

Map your route to see what towns you're going by and then look up those towns to see if there is anything worth stopping for. Also, make sure to bring motion sickness(non drowsy) pills and your insurance card.

First, it will take a minimum of 4 days! To enjoy the trip try to drive about 350 miles a day. Interstate 10 is a very good route to take till you get to I-75. Then go south.

Look at your maps, and see the sights along the way. Take your time and enjoy. If I were you I'd take a week or more!

helloprissykitty gave some very good advice, and I agree with her. So, drive on and GOPHER IT!

Have fun!

Helloprissykitty had the best answer that I saw. And, it's a huge deal traveling these days. Save money and park at visitors' areas in the full light of the place to get your rest. A night at a reasonable motel mid-way will pump you up for the rest of the trip. 'Monk out' as best you can on a limited scale (if you know who Monk is). Having something that's needed during a trip like this is really cool especially if someone else is the one in need. Wow, I'm ready to go somewhere.

Go get a travel book on cool, offbeat attractions, as well as great, non-chain restaurants. A few years ago, my wife and I resolved to never eat at a chain restaurant again, and it has been a very rewarding experience. There are excellent guides on the best places to eat in the country.

I haven't driven that far ... but i have driven from houston Texas to Tahlequah OK (about 9 1/2 hours) And i gotta say, that your travel buddy is VERY important, Mine was to afraid to drive in unfamiliar territory, so that made for a long trip for me, I just made sure to stop about every 2 hrs, even if only for 10 min, stretch, regroup and push forward...but when traveling that far, magazines, snacks, water, a roll of T.P. (in case ya sneeze) and good music. Stop if ya have to....It can be a lot of fun.....good Luck!

Lots of water, lots of CD's or tapes and plan a stop every 2 to 3 hours.
