The MINIMUM size tank for keeping Hermit Crabs is 20 Gallons. BIGGER if you want to keep more than 1. They need room to move around and DIG. READ THIS SITE :)
OH, and BTW, keeping a turtle is A LOT of work if it is to be done properly. They will grow large and will eventually need a 100 gal tank...and rocks and UV lights...lots to consider. ALSO fish have certain requirements as well. BEFORE getting ANY pet, do THOROUGH research..and since you have the internet, it's FREE, just read up on it so you KNOW how to keep a pet PROPERLY and as healthy as possible..please :)

A five gallon tank will be a little small. Hermits need to have a food dish, two water dishes big enough to get into (one with salt water, one fresh), an extra shell or two, a place to hide, room for climbing, exercise, and substrate deep enough to dig into. Despite the name "hermit" crab, they do best when a few are kept together. As you cn see, there's a bit involved in their care if you want them to live beyond a few weeks. See these websites for more info: http://www.hermit-crabs.com/, http://www.thecrabbagepatch.com/
Given your success with your previous pets, keep the two fish!

If you get one you should get at least 2 others, they are extremely social. Also buy a mister for the tank. I can't say everything here but here are some suggestions:
Get the book Hermit Crabs For Dummies.
Heat the tank.
Search for hermit crabs on Dogpile www.dogpile.com, it has Google and Yahoo and Ask combined.
Hope this helps!!!

5 gallons is not big enough, one crab will not thrive they live in colonies of 100 and more so that would be unfair to house one in such a tiny enclosure with no room to move or recieve both waters they must have and all the vairety of food they must be provided.
They need daily care and constant temp and humidty monitoring. They are not a good starter pet at all and need a financial, equipment and time commitment.

I certainly have heard that it is not a solid theory given which you do no longer comprehend what style of situations they have been residing in and you'd be able to desire to be bringing ailments on your cutting-edge hermies. yet regardless in case you return to a decision to get one on line or at a shop you will desire to shop the hot hermit crap quarantined for no less than 2 weeks earlier allowing it to connect your different hermies. solid good fortune.
