I thought it was overly exaggerated. Every person in that movie that ran into a race different from their own immediately became racist. After watching that movie I was under the impression that every time a minority walked out their door they would be called a racial slur by everyone they met.
The one thing I did like was it showed that every culture has the ability to be racist. In our society it seems like people want to declare that only whites are capable of racism. Having an Asian wife I know that other cultures can be just as bad if not worse. Non-white people have called my wife more racial slurs than most people would like to believe. Not to say that she hers them all the time, but every now and again and more often than not they do not come from whites.

this was an awesome movie. my sociology professor trys to get her classes to watch it every semester. the time period may have been exagerated but thats not the point of the movie. the point of the movie is to show you how easy it is be a racist and how much of a mistake your thought patterns about some races could be.

That movie broke down so many stereotypes and other people's "posturing" tricks, but the one that stuck with me was when the policeman, Matt Dillon, was reaching into the car to save the lady he had violated and her reaction. You could see she was actually choosing between fire and him, and that will stick with me forever. I Hope!! @8-) That gave me chills just typing it. Probably need more coffee. No, that movie changed me. Corny, but I do have chills from answering that question!!
Movies have the power to change their audiences. I know it.

I like Crash too. For a while I thought I wasn't a racist, that I get along with other races. But then when you get mugged like Sandra Bullocks' character you immediately stereotype people around you. I thought that being a racist meant that you discriminate people with color, torture them, or accuse them of some crimes they have not committed. I did not know that making fun of my Asian neighbor's accent is also considered racist. Even though its all good with him, some get offended. Look what happened to Shilpah Shetty in Big Brother UK. Jane Goody didn't think she was offending anyone with her stupid comments. I think ignorance is what's making us racist.

it was a great movie..really. it deserved its 'best picture' rights at the oscars. great ensemble of cast and a nice screenplay.
but for me it was a little exaggerated, like it was the worst 24 hours in LA. if LA would want to boost its tourism, it will have to confiscate and burn all the copies of the movie...teehee.
