Ofcourse an African country will win the World Cup. i don't know when, but it's not impossible. it's very possible. There are some really awesome players from Africa. the thing is, anything can happen in the WC. Nobody knows what'll happen. I mean, did you expect Brazil in 2006 to be knocked out of the race and not even make it to the semi-finals? Did you think France would beat Spain?
African countries have as good as chance as any Asian, European, or North or South American counry. They're all talented people-- playing the same game, using the same skills.

An African country will NEVER win the World Cup, unless Europe and South America nuke each other. That's the only time Africa will have a chance.
Want to know how many times a country from somewhere other than Europe or South America won the World Cup? Zero.
How about made the finals? Zero.
How about came in third? Once, and that was in 1930, when the U.S. tied for 3rd with Yugoslavia, back when the third place game didn't exist.
Came in fourth? Once, when South Korea made the third-place match. Oh yeah, the World Cup that year was held IN SOUTH KOREA.
So maybe, just maybe, an African nation will come close in 2010, simply because the Cup will be held in South Africa. But will one ever win it all? Nowhere in the near future. And by near future, I mean at least 25 World Cups.

Some time in the future it will happen but not for at least 50 years. They need first develope their countrys into strong ecnomic countrys, resolve some problems and then start to think about football. They will need to get a "youth system" like italy, england, the us, france and spain has. the ivory coast is a great story but they are in the middle of a civil war and they need to finnish that first. It could happen but not for a long time

I hope that an asian or african country wins soon but do not see it happening for a decade or two as most do not have the depth of players to last a full WC.
As more players play in europe and their players develop this will change. Football is a way of escaping poverty in the same way it was/is(?) in South America.

Wait and see. Frankly I think that time will be the most bore World Cup with a lot of upset just like in Korea.

an African team could win the FIFA World Cup but it is unlikely to happen in 2010, maybe in 2014 pr 2018.

Yea, I think that they will eventually, they looked pretty good last cup. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain and for that reason they could easily upset other teams next cup.
