Plextor makes the best optical drives (it is all they do) while Sony does make a very good drive also. Liteon sells more optical drives then anyone else, and when other makers, like Plextor and Sony, need more capacity, they will contract out to Liteon to make for them.

I guess this like Ford and Chevy. You get different views. I have heard LiteOn is very good. But, the computer I just build, I used Asus because I used an Asus motherboard. But, before I decided on Asus, I was looking more at a "Sony of my owny". :-p

I deffinetly give my vote to sony. Everything I have that is sony seems to last forever and does a good job. I have a Sony DVD burner that has lasted over 2 years with heavy burning. Best one iv ever owned.
