The pay is absolutely nothing until you get published. And even then you better have a real job.

The key to getting published is understanding how to tell a story that says, "life is like this!" If you don't understand that, then you should learn about how to tell a story.

There are many websites, including searching through Yahoo Answers, that will answer questions and provide tutorials.

Check out the tutorials on http://www.storyentertainment.com and if you can invest in any books, check out these three books, in this order:

1) Story by Robert McKee
2) Screenplay by Syd Field (nevermind that it's about writing for a movie -- storytelling is identical)
3) On Writing by Stephen King

I'm not an author, but I think I can help. An author has FAME!!! when successful (look at all those household names!). You are on the road for book signings some days. The pay shouldn't be that bad if you're good, and if you aren't, KEEP TRYING!!!! A WRITER HAS OH SO MANY REWRITES. NEVER GIVE UP!!
