"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Gandhi
I take this quote to mean that if you want to see something changed you have to change it in yourself first, start with yourself first and not rely on the rest of world to change for you. It's about taking responsibility instead of laying blame.

Kant's 'humanity as an end' formulation of the categorical imperative;
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
Not particularly poetic, but it sums up everything that's good about Christianity (do unto others etc.), without relying on dogma. Especially nice because there's a beautiful, elaborate proof behind it, which relies on showing all morality to be born from your own autonomy, not any external influence (e.g. the will of god.) Again, this fits with some Christian ideas (when you sin against 'god', you sin against yourself), but without relying on dogma. It's rather that when you sin against 'good', you sin against your free, self-determining identity.
I suspect many people's problems with 'received' morality are legitimate objections to unearned authority (i.e. 'why should I do what the church / society / the governement / my parents tell me to do?'), which this basis in individual autonomy promises to answer.
Shame I can't believe the proof. The world would be a better place if more people did.

We are made for loving. If we don’t love, we will be like plants without water. - Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize winner Where there is love there is no darkness. - Burundi Proverb When you are in love, everything is a miracle - Myself. Sorry if these all suck, I like the ones that aren't from me, but I've never been good at tattoo quotes.

This is one of my favorite quotes.
"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility."
I can read it over and over and I still find new meaning in it.

I'm not sure this is my "most inspiring quote," but I love it, at least. It's from the movie American Beauty.
"...but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much; my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold onto it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life. You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry...you will someday."

This is my favorite quote:
O MY FRIEND!
"Hear no evil, and see no evil, abase not thyself, neither sigh and weep. Speak no evil, that thou mayest not hear it spoken unto thee, and magnify not the faults of others that thine own faults may not appear great; and wish not the abasement of anyone, that thine own abasement be not exposed. Live then the days of thy life, that are less than a fleeting moment, with thy mind stainless, thy heart unsullied, thy thoughts pure, and thy nature sanctified, so that, free and content, thou mayest put away this mortal frame, and repair unto the mystic paradise and abide in the eternal kingdom for evermore. "
It says it all!!

" It is not so much who you are today, but rather; who you are becoming day by day that matters." This quote gives me the will to create within me who I want to become. I can change! The world can change! Peace...

A conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue. That's why there are so few good conversations: due to scarcity, two intelligent talkers seldom meet.
