To much of a big mouth -me first- player. Promised 50 against Portland and scored 9. He is really gonna kill Duke.

Gilbert Arenas said he was going to score 50 points against the Trail Blazers today and he is only scored 9 points. Gilbert Arenas is a good basketball player just he doesn't follow what he says in his blog. There is a lot of other good NBA players out there like James, Wade, Bryant, and many more.

I've never watched him while he was in college but here's what NBA Draft scouts said when he was coming out:
Strengths: A clutch player with great athleticism and quickness..... Has a great three point stroke and creates well off the dribble...... Very crafty getting his shots off.... Leads by example. Very good competitor.
Weaknesses: At 6-3 doesn't have ideal height... Height hurts him especially defensively where opposing guards can post up and pass/shoot over him.
Keep in mind that scouting sites that offer brief reports on each player usually try to keep things positive. His college stats are as follows:
Stats:
Year Team G FGP 3PT% FTPSPG BPG RPG APG PPG
99-00 Arizona 34 .453 29.2 75.02.1 0.3 4.1 2.1 15.4
00-01 Arizona 36 .479 41.6 72.41.8 0.2 3.6 2.3 16.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIV I TOTALS 70 .466 36.1 73.8 1.9 0.2 3.8 2.2 15.8
Based on stats alone I don't necessarily think his college stats were through the roof awesome. Compare them to another shooting guard that was drafted before him (this guy was drafted first round pick 21) that same year:
Year TeamGFGP3PT%FTPSPGBPGRPGAPGPPG
99-00 North Carolina36.45936.175.21.50.45.52.616.7
00-01 North Carolina33.45037.785.32.00.46.13.520.9
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIV I TOTALS69.45436.980.91.70.45.83.018.8
edit: I can't get this guy's stats to look right so go to
http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/josephforte.htm
to check out his stats.
If you want to see who this guy that got drafted ahead of Agent 00 is go to:
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/joseph_forte/index.html
You'll see that he has played in a grand total of 25 NBA games and has scored a total of 30 points.
In general I think that there's no real way of knowing who is going to be good or who isn't outside of the very top picks in the draft. Heck even players in the top 10 might be out of the NBA in less than 5 years. All of it seems to say that scouting players involves some science and a whole lot of luck.

Probably the same reason why Tom Brady fell to the 6th round.

Sometimes the draft gets weird,Kobe 13th pick?,Michael Jordan 3rd?Dwyane Wade 5th?,the managers sometimes dont think well, but Gilbert was not a pure scorer when he entered the NBA he developed it so i think thta's why.
