Well, we all want a purpose to our lives. You mention 2 possible places to find that purpose, but you already know that they do not give all you seek.
The Christian finds purpose in living for God. The Christian knows the depth of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us all and wants to live in a way that pleases the One who made the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we can have eternal life if we claim Him as Savior.
That is where I find my purpose for my life. There is joy and contentment that is found nowhere else. Other places where people seek satisfaction are temporary sources at best. I won't tell you that I don't have slumps emotionally, but I would be far more skeptical, withdrawn, hedonistic and hopeless without God in my life.

Be Thankful. Why? Be thankful that you are healthy. Be thankful that you drove safely today and are not lying in a hospital with serious injuries. Be thankful that you are not in Iraq, wondering if a bomb is going to blow up in your face 24/7.

Count your blessings, because people are suffering and dying around the world this very minute. You are safe and have your freedom.

Often, people don't realize what they have until is taken away from them. Try not to compare yourself to others and just be thankful for the good things in life you currently enjoy.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative. Strengthen your Will and act willfully. Let the Judgment judge its self. Will focus: senses of the body, let the Judgment be the bodies Judgment, listen and answer and obey. Know what is not the body and let that Judgment judge its self. From this simple regimen let the totality of the Spirit evidence its self and learn its needs. You are mind body and Spirit, let them be you in their totality, not that simple "I" we keep talking about. Sense others. Over time you may see someone actually feeling good for your existence, their Will, not their Judgment. Pay attention.
