OK - this is a correction to my previous answer - Tarifa in Spain is the most southerly town in mainland Europe. - So its Spain - not Greece as I said previously (silly me - I was looking at Google Earth with the lines of latitude turned off).

Tarifa is actually about 10 miles further south than Gibralter

Southernmost Point In Europe

Southernmost point. The island of Gavdos, Greece (34° 48′ 02″ N) is the least ambiguous southernmost point of Europe. However, there are other contenders, depending on definition. The island of Cyprus has cultural links with Europe; its southernmost point is the British base at Akrotiri. The Portuguese islands of Madeira are borderline between Europe and Africa; their southernmost point is the Savage Islands. La Restinga on the island of El Hierro in the Spanish Canary Islands is yet further south and could be considered politically, though not physiographically as part of Europe.

However, thge southernmost point of mainland Europe is:
Southernmost point. Punta de Tarifa, Spain (36° 00′ 15″ N)

I hope this is helpful.

Looking at my world wall map, and without making an absolute minute measurement, it would be a toss up between the Island of Sicily (a part of Italy) and the south central coast of Spain. Greece is a distant third. Gibraltar, regardless of location, is not Continental.

Yes it is Spain (Punta de Tarifa)

By the way, Mustanger, what's that guff about Gibraltar not being continental?
It is not an island, it is a peninsula. You can walk into Spain from there, (when the border's open).

Anyone who correctly uses the adjective "southernmost" knows exactly where England is located relative to the continent. But you have had a bit of fun promoting the indignation of others and wasting their time.
