An apartment in the US means a place that is leased or rented. In other countries an apartment means the style of housing you have, similar to a condo here.

No they don't get the place free. Their monthly mortage replaces the monthly rent, you pay on a monthly basis either way.

My mortgage payment is $975 a month and utilities run at about $350 a month. but I share a 4 bedroon 2 bathroom 2kitchen house with my son and his business partner. We got a real deal, because its in a bad area of the city Rooms generally go for about $300 if there is a kitchenette, or $250 without and mostplaces have their own bath. I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada My youngest daughter pays about $1200 rent and utilities total for a 3 bedroom house.

We do that in America. Are you serious? We buy apartments all the time, they are called condos here in America. They are called apartments in Europe and elsewhere. And by the way they do rent apartments inEurope and other places they call them renting flats instead of apartments that is in England
