First I have to say that the story got a lot more press there in Australia than it did here.
Second, I have to agree with Mr. Howard. Obama had every right to maintain the position that he wants to. But his position has to be seen by our enemies as well as our allies; and they (the enemy) must take comfort in what they see as decreasing resolve among the potential new leaders of our government.

Howard is standing behind his opinion no matter the facts on the ground. Obama is new to the US Senate and has opposed the war from the start. The problem with Iraq needs answers not finger pointing. The war is a fiasco with no one winning anything, but the military contractors. Both Howard and Obama are entitled to their opinions. I hope one was the best way out of the mess.

I do like what Sea Breeze said, Iraq needs new ideas and all this sniping is distracting from our true issues. First of all, I fail to see why Mr Howard is injecting himself into our politics? And why is Mr Obama the only one he commented on? There are other candidates advocating withdrawl? Sounds like he was put up too it.

nothing said, nothing gained. this is politics and every one word -- of political openents and friends count in the final outcome. i am not surprised. why should you? the international world political scene is inter-related and give and take is the norm. the war in irak is supported by a number of "willing nations" -- and australia is a good example. so it is normal the the australian prime minister speaks up about bush's opponent in ideology. it is too early to predict the outcome. hope it helps.

He has the right to his own opinion, but let him back his belief up with more Australian troops, not American ones.
