I think I hate neighborhoods for the reason that they limit you to having to settle for a house that is not unique. Many neighborhoods, in USA , all are houses looking like "McMansion wannabes" . I hate it. The snooty homeowner associations, the codes, you have to build a McMansion now, why is it nearly impossible to build a small house now with quality and character?
How is it possible ? I guess if you can find you some land out in the country, but even then you have codes!
For anybody living in the UK is it like this as well?
I feel like we ( Americans)are trapped into having to buy an excessively big house with no charm in modern soceity!

I challenge anyone to show me a more characterful little house. Its like a house in fairyland!

You say that you, as Americans, are trapped into having to buy excessively big houses. Well nothing will change unless someone like you starts lobbying to make a difference.I realise that that is really hard, but it can be done.

Well I think that the government has taken the right of others to enjoy their constitutional rights too far and the government feels that our court system can not handle complaints of violations of such rights by the ordinary citizen against one who violates such inherent rights, so the government has taken it upon themselves to regulate real estate on how we can live and build versus leaving our rights to sue if we feel that our quiet enjoyment of real estate or the healthy use of our property is infringed upon by others. Further the government has set these standards without getting the vote of the people affected by these standards with the main excuse being that for the government to provide the services to the public they need these standards. Yeah right.
However we live in the best country in the world but we need to be vigil on these issues before the government starts to tell you when to change your underwear so that your neighbor doesn't have to put up with the "potential" smell.
