i have an old wall heater that keeps shutting off before the desired temp is reached. i had it repaired the and repairman said the regulator was bad. they replaced the regulator, but its still doing the same thing. i noticed that there is some type of sensor or switch mounted on the opening where the heat comes out from. it has 2 wires to it. when the unit shuts off, i would give it a light tap and it turns back on. whats the proper name and function for this thing? i sure would appreciate any suggestions or answers

High temp limit switch...It can be replaces with a higher rated switch, which can be done, or bypassed, which SHOULD NOT be done. Remove the switch, (After you turn off the power) See what it is rated at, replace with a like rated, and I wouldn't go more than 10 degrees above what you have.
