Try singing more from your diaphragm. You are damaging your vocal cords. If you are unable to sing any other way, just do what people in choir do, take a lot of cough drops and keep your throat moist. Hold your hand on your diaphragm and use those muscles to sing. You will get a better sound.
Best wishes from an ex-singer.

It sounds like you are trying to force your notes out. Don't do that. For one thing, when you do that, you WILL strain your throat, and the other thing is that you wont sound as good as you can. Let it flow. Drink water right befor you sing so as to keep your throat moist. While you are singing, at a rest that is long enough, LIGHTLY bite your tounge and swallow the spit. I know that sounds odd and gross, but my music teacher always told us that it is a secret used well in the music industry.

i get a lot of sore throats too. i don't sing a lot but i talk a lot bc i am a teacher. my throat doctor (i had to see one bc it was such a problem) said he sees a lot of singers and teachers. try to keep quiet during your off-singing hours. also, the singers' advice above sounds good. i was in chorus back in the day

Gargle with salt water or mouthwash before you sing. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

If you're not breathing correctly, you can get a sore throat...
If you're breathing right, then maybe you need to try drinking hot tea with honey... If I'm not mistaken, that stuff is darn good for your voice...
Good luck!

Don't sing so loudly. It hurts your vocal cords, others' ears sometimes, and your ego. Sing not that loud. Or do vocal exercises before singing.
