even though the person is not a mechanic? if u would, then what if the person charges u 80 dollars for trying to repair a damage done to ur bumper by using a hair dryer to burn it so it will melt so they can reshape it,but then the end result is worse than it was before? what would u do? that happened to someone i know, and the person doesnt speak english so he couldnt defend himself.....i hope that people are aware that having unprofessional people fix ur car for a cheaper price can cost a lot more in the end,its almost like having surgery with a "doctor" who never studied medicine and dont have any kind of proof that they can do the job...be careful

for the person who said "sound like ur brilliant", first of all: the car wasnt broken down,it only had a small defect in the bumper which does not even prevent the car from running or anything, and the defect had been there for a year...so this stranger sees it and comes out of the blue asking for money to fix it,i dont think its a very smart thing to accept such "help",i would rather pay 300 bucks for a real professional to replace it than to have someone burn it with a hair dryer

...Sounds like you're absolutely brilliant.

If I'm broken down in the middle of nowhere,I'll get any help I can. Be it a cell phone or someone (like my father, though not necessarily him) who stops to help people on the side of the road who's just -screwed-.

There's still some decent people out there. And a body shop would charge you about $300,replace the entire bumper and still screw it up.

this is and isn't fair. no i agree that not just every one should be trusted and i wouldn't let just any one work on my car the that in fact if you pull out a hair dryer I'm going to call you stupid and tell you to get away from my car but then again my dad is a non certified mechanic and he is an amazing he help every one in ours and the surrounding towns. i don't even know how many times he has pulled over to help some one who is broke down. you can tell hes serious by all the tools in the back of our truck and just by looking at his hands they are leathery and grease covered from work so you can judge every one badly. just be care full!

I too have seen these street people and I can never understand how anyone could be so gullible as to take them up on whatever they're selling. It amazes me what some would do to save a few bucks. If it sounds too good to be true.....

I don't think so, but I teach in an inner city area and every day I drive past homeless people holding up signs asking for money. I usally give them some and hope they will put it to good use.

That would depend on how badly I needed the repair. But with the surgery, I always go with real doctors/surgeons who know what they're doing...I'm just kinda funny that way, ya know?
