You have two choices here. Write the report and still believe in what you believe in, only write the report to make her happy and to keep from being grounded. Or you can stick to your beliefs and hope that eventually she accepts that and you.

I don't believe in evolution either. But I'm a mom. I believe that she has your best interests in mind. She doesn't want you to just accept beliefs that you've been taught, but to think them through.
It's always right to obey your mom , give respect to your mom and cooperate with your mom. And it is not a bad idea to know what the opposing arguments are for any controversial issue. Then, you can speak clearly because you truly know the issues. It sounds as if you've thought your opinion through, and that's why you find exploring another viewpoint a waste of time. Look at it as an opportunity to once for all clarify your own position and understand all the issues.
Write two papers. One to satisfy your mom and one for a rebuttal. This is not the last time in life you will be confronting controversial issues, so it's good practice for life.

On the surface, it does seem a bit odd. However, I think that what she is trying to do is to force you to look at different points of view before you make up your mind. She wants you to learn objectivity which means that you have to develop critical thinking skills instead of closing your mind stubbornly and completely to a particular subject. If after you read the article and write your summary, you still believe otherwise, that's fine, but at least you have looked at and thought about a different opinion/fact or another way of looking at something. So don't be mad at your mom (not too much anyway) because, even though she is using an unusual method, she is trying to make you into a smart and intelligent thinking person.

Personally I don't think she should be doing either but I can't say anything because I'm not your mother. I believe in gay and lesbian marriages although my mom is totally against that but she lets me go ahead believing in it. She tries to tell me that god doesn't want guys to be with guys and same with girls but i still believe in it. The question is- why does she let me believe in it. Because I have the right to believe in whatever I want. Try telling your mom that but remember that might get you into more trouble.

Wow, that's kinda weird.
Just do it, then your mom will get over it. Maybe you could include some of your own resources as to why you don't believe it.
