I did a google search and found three to four independent women's professional football (tackle, not flag) leagues. I thought that was kinda cool but I was thinking this...
....would a real women's football league work? I mean televised games, actual drafts, playoffs, Super Bowl, etc. It would put more women into professional sports with actual salaries instead of a volunteer effort. But for the drafts to work, they'd have to create a college football system for women, too.
If they can do it with the WNBA, then they can make a WNFL.

Well the NFL doesn't WANT one. I think that will prevent them from ever getting a major TV contract. Yeah the NFL is THAT powerful. As to a draft how? We would have to get women's football in college and espically Division 1. Do you think the NCAA would let it in either? I think these independent leagues need to find a way to PROVE it can work so that they can get the intrest.

The WNBA only exists cause the NBA subsidizes it. That means that the NBA pays off all the money the league owes as it does not make any money on its own. Its a freaking joke league. They get, what, 3000 per game? WOW. Women's football would be even worse. No one would go or care. It would be a total waste of money.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the only women's professional sports that matter are tennis and to some extent golf.

Theres a huge global network of Lady Football teams...Europe has 3 separate leagues.
I think for womens football to "work", I would agree with you...it would have to start at collegiate level. Otherwise it's doomed to semi-pro status as it currently is in the US and Canada.
And I believe it can work...if I were Commissioner for the Day
I would feature the womens game before the mens game...in "piggy back" fashion at the start. Then assess attendance and profitability from there.

I have actually played for one of the women's football teams for five years. In our leage, there are over 40 teams nationwide. It's very competitive. I suggest checking your local community for women's football just to watch one game. It's amazing to see women from all walks of life hit as hard as guys do. We may not be "professional" but we sure know the game and play it well. As for getting noteriety, my league has signed a TV deal with a Direct TV channel as well as put on several tv programs such as the Gender Bowl. It's been around for almost seven years and slowly but surely we are getting steam.

I doubt it. Not enough women play football to make the league competitive. Also the football would be much lower quality and boring to watch not like the WNBA where the actual basketball is appealing to those who like the old school game.

Would you watch it? The XFL folded after 1 year due to lack of viewers. The USFL had the same problem.
Without advertisers paying for big audiences, how would you pay the players even a WNBA-like wage?

not many women play football so it would be hard to start a draft in college ball. And they already let a few women be kickers so i think we might be getting closer.
But ultimately no i dont think it will happen anytime soon and if it does happen it will be far in the future.

No, I dont think it would make it because I dont think it would be able to find an audience. I am a women and I am a huge NFL fan and I like the WNBA but I am not sure I would watch a female football game.
