There are a lot of things you can try. Try feeding the baby or changing its diaper. Most babies like to be swaddled, in which you wrap a blanket snugly around their bodies, much simulating the feeling they had in the womb. You can also bounce them gently or rock with them either in a chair or standing; they like movement. Quiet any TV or radio, dim the lights and shush in the baby's ear-- it mimics the sound of mother's beating heart that baby heard in the womb. Sometimes babies cry when they're over-stimulated. Make sure babies have a little quiet time where they're not being oohed and aahed over every second. Good luck!

I agree with checking its needs - cold, hungry, dirty bum, pain, wind etc, then swaddling, pacifier etc as the others have said. Sometimes as well if both parents have tried ask someone else to come in and try and settle them - friend, neighbour, grandparent. Babies sense when the carer is getting uptight at the crying baby and a new / fresh person can sometimes help. Any parent who has been through this I am sure will be willing to help and will understand so don't feel silly to ask. (Singing Edeilweiss helped my baby too!) Good luck.

Carry out some checks. Is it ?...

1.too hot.
2.too cold.
3.hungry
4.thirsty
5.wet, dirty .
6.Unwell, eg. fever, teething pains , earache, (ears will be red)could have colic (wind)there is medicine for this a teaspoon usually helps the burping.)
7. Everything seems ok.? then pick it up and cuddle it, use a soothing voice , sing, rock, give it a pacifier. Above all, keep calm and use gentle movements. If its just that the baby is 'trying you out' put it down and leave for a while, however young the baby is, it soon learns how to get attention!!!!

First, figure out why the baby is crying. If nothing is working, wrap the baby in a receiving blanket tightly.........no too tight. And hold the baby while walking and swaying. Don't loose your patience.........I know that is easier said than done. If that doesn't work, place the baby, wrapped in the blanket, in the crib and shut the door. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and go check on the baby.

Babies cry for different reasons and without knowing the circumstances of your baby's cries it's hard to say. When my baby was fed I made sure she was burped because the gas made her cry. Sometimes, she just wasn't happy and I found that when I put her in her Sara's Ride carrier (facing out) and vacuumed she was very happy.

Don't worry.... you'll soon learn your baby's "language" and you'll know what to do!

good luck!

Rocking, holding baby against you, rubbing and patting back gently and breathing loudly--as a mother breathes (as if baby is in the womb hearing the mother breathing)

If perhaps the colic, lay baby downward across knees, with you sitting and gently raise knees up and down quickly. Will sooth the hurting stomach.

Rocking and singing to baby. Walking the floor with baby. Taking baby for a ride in the car. Try whatever works.

ok i agree with making sure its not wet, hungry, sick etc BUT u cant sit there and rock the baby everytime he/she cries other wise it will just cry for ur attention and to be held. if u feel ur self getting uptight wrap the baby and gently place him/her back in there crib and wlk out for a mins till u calm down otherwise the baby will sense ur uptight and stressed so bub will become stressed. good luck and take deep breaths.

Nurse the child, hold the child, comfort the child, let the child sleep with mommy. in other words, do as nature intended, and you'll get very little crying.

Tend it's needs.

Is he/she hungry?
Wet/Dirty diaper?
Gassy?
Uncomfortable?
Too cold or hot?
Wants to be held?
Tired?

Check these things calmly. If none of these seem to be the problem then you'll just have to wait it out. Hold him/her and walk, or rock, and have patience. Pacifiers are good for young babies.
