Ah hah! You forgot that most important little tidbit!!!! A female?! Of course I'm sure this is why they're all going nuts! Just think about it.... you're stuck in Afghanistan playing soldier with a bunch of guys for about two years and all of a sudden a chick comes strollin' in? It doesn't even matter if she's all that ugly! You guys are gonna be killin' yourselves over her! lol! Do a test. Take her out if you can, see what happens.....

My guess would be that the plecos are feeling crowded despite the large tank volume and size of the bottom. I have never heard of that many plecos being housed together and them being over 3-4" long. I would assume that the plecos are fighting for territory now that the female is in the mix.

When I bred plecos I did so in a 18' round by 36" deep holding tank and with only 1 pair of plecos in the tank, so I'm not sure from that experience what would happen with more.

I got my pair as adults from a breeder in southern Florida that uses 1/4 acre 3" deep ponds and breeds with 6 fish (3 pairs) in the pond. He claims any more than that and they will fight but with that few all of them will spawn in a single season.

I don't know what conclusions you can draw from all of that, but I would assume they need a significant amount of space to call their territory.

I would try removing about 1/2 the plecos and providing breeding structures at vairous places around the tank.

Hope this helps some

that's incredibly an opinion based question truthfully, so there incredibly isn't a sparkling decrease thank you to assert there's a appropriate answer. for sure as considered one of the different responders mentioned, tank length will dictate via some distance, if it is likewise possible to have an Arowana. Admittedly, i'm biased for Arowana as I certainly have stored them in numbers and solo via the years. Flowerhorns fetch a outstanding value, they do get cumbersome, and don't choose fairly as plenty area. Flowerhorns, from my attitude besides the undeniable fact that are hideous. that's basically my opinion. Flowerhorns would would desire to "improve" on you i think. that's fairly sparkling that an Arowana will require you to have a plenty greater advantageous tank, besides the undeniable fact that the reward of conserving an Arowana is unparalled to the different fish incredibly. It has stressful circumstances yet rewards on a similar time. there is no compairson to the flowing grace an Arowana reflects while shifting via a tank. while you're fortunate sufficient to be in an Asian usa or CANADA, you would be able to desire to acquire an Asian Arowana. the colors for those fish are calling for the optimum marketplace fees and next to a number of efficient breedings in Arowana farms, the marketplace would desire to open to the u . s . interior some years time. assume the charges of Asian Arowana to bounce even larger. A flowerhorn is likely considered one of the bigger cichlids obtainable. The have shade varieties no longer matched via many different cichlids the two. As an African cichlid keeper i will assert there is an apperciation for the size of a cichlid. hues are much greater efficient. the justifications returned why I dislike a Flowerhorn is from my attitude, the prounouced hump on the brow seems hideous. Frontosia, via assessment, yet another primary cichlid bred and fetches outstanding fees to boot gets humps on their head, for this reason why i do no longer breed them.
