Pentium 4 is more for soccer moms and the "home computer" Celeron D is more of a workers type. AMD is better than both. Anyways, dual core with more cache is by far the obvious better one. But a common computer user doesn't need that much speed. I'm pretty sure your programs can run well with about 2 GHZ. So you should be fine with either one.

Pentium 4. Celeron processors have half the cache memory which makes the macine run slower.

tough call. the celeron D is a great processor for the price. if you can afford it just get a pentium D or p4 with HT. if not id go with the celeron and just get lots of ram (similar use to cache)

I see the word Celeron & I cringe.
Please please please do not buy a Celeron unless it is for a business PC.
Multimedia & Celeron are a contradiction of terms (or they should be).
The Celeron chip was created when Intel got a bad case of hemorrhoids.
After much scratching scabs formed.
When the scabs fell off Intel picked then up ... looked at them & said :
" Behold... the Celeron chip !"

Celeron D is single core. The P4 is better out of the two but honestly they both suck.

get a core duo, cheap and way way better than either. A 2 ghz core duo would be like running two 2ghz pentium 4s.
