As a guess, based on your observation and experience, what % of white Americans still see blacks as inferior?

Throughout history whites have thought that they are superior morally and intellectually than black. The word white means pure, clean, innocent. The word black has means dirty, sinful,etc. In our society we continue to see how generations of ignorance continues. I really couldn't say what percentage still feel this way but the number is higher than what it should be. I hope as time goes on people will learn that there are immoral people in every race, and ignorance and stupidity transends race. We are all humans and should be judged on a universal standard that excludes our race.

Raised in a large northeastern city and now living in the south for eighteen years, including several visits to several of the southern states, it's amazing the difference. Some of the really deep seated hatreds are still in existence from both races. It's hard to say, my guess, forty percent. Sadly we don't seem to understand that voting for a person is not voting for a race. I'll support anyone from any party if I think they will help the majority of America and change our direction in Iraq.

as a white woman married to a black man, i'd have to say that if a lot of people think that way, they hide it very well. the hilarious thing is, around here it's mostly the white people and hispanic people who live in the projects on welfare who dislike black people. i put it down to their need to feel superior to someone, since they're the lowest of the low.

ETA: in contrast to others' answers above, i'd like to say also that i and my husband and kids have driven all across the US from KY to Ca. we have gone through about 20 states together. in all those states, the only obvious racism we encountered was in Tennessee, in Memphis, and it came from two black women, not white people.

I think in their guts probably 5-10 %, and those would be thinking intelligence wise I have never heard anyone say blacks were morally inferior.

I don't see blacks as inferior. Most are smart, hard working... It's the illegal aliens that are, in my opinion intellectual midgets. They don't have any motivation, or goals other than living off the backs of America's tax dollars. Blacks, and whites should unite on this issue, because illegals are bad for everyone as Americans. To answer your question**** I'd say 100% of Americans think illegals are inferior, and want their azzes out of our country!

When you look at the facts, you tell me what the conclusion is.

--70% of black babies are born out of wedlock.
--Blacks now account for nearly half of all new HIV/AIDS diagnoses and contract AIDS at a rate 10 times that of whites.
--Sixty-four percent of all American women living with HIV/AIDS are black.
--AIDS is the leading cause of death for black women between ages 25 to 34.


Are you trying to silence the truth by turning "whites" into bigots? Why not let the truth be known and help the black-Americans succeed in the United States?

i unfortunately live down south right now and here I'd have to say at least 45% of southern people still think that old fashioned way

where I'm from PGH, Pa is better i would have to say 13% of people hold these old fashioned views also

It depends on where you are. In the south, my guess is 10-15%. In the north more like 25-30%.
