i would ask your doctor rather than take the advise you get from here.

It would be best for you to check with your doctor - which is important anyway for prenatal care.
But I am 9 and a half months pregnant and I have taken Metamucil, and Gas-X during my pregnancy. There are more things you are able to take than people think. Although I wouldn't take more than what you absolutely needed to just in case.
As far as your calcium intake - just take a calcium supplement like the Viactiv chews or something where you can make up for your lack of dietary intake. You really need the calcium though, so be sure to at least have a supplement.
Again - Check with your doc first before taking anything - because everyone is different and you never know if you might be at a higher risk than someone else.
Congrats! Pregnancy is the most amazing thing that I have ever experienced - I'm actually very sad that it's almost over!!!
Good luck to you!

You can take both Metamucil and Gas-X. Many pregnant women use fiber supplements to help things along. Gas-X contains simethicone which is not absorbed into your body, it works only in the digestive tract.

You can certainly limit dairy while pregnant. Just be sure you are getting enough calcium. Take supplements if you need to. The RDA of calcium for pregnant women is 1500mg per day.

When all else fails, it is generally considered safe for women to take antacids such as Tums or Rolaids as well as Simethicone, which is found in the over the counter medications Gas-X, Mylicon and Phazyme. These medications are not rated on the grading system the FDA has developed to show the potential danger to a fetus, but these drugs are not absorbed from the intestinal tract and into the blood stream. You should check with your doctor or midwife before using these medications

First of all don't feel dumb at all. Every first time mom I am sure has felt the way you do. Second of all the smartest thing you said was get a book and read up on it. That is a terrific idea.

However even smarter than that, consult a board certified OB/GYN or midwife. They will be able to tell you what to eat and what not to eat not to mention what to ingest (Ie Metamucil) or what not to ingest for good health for you and your baby.

Last but most of all CONGRADULATIONS to both you and your partner.

Honestly from one Lactose to another ...do not take anything OTC while your pregnant without asking your doctor first. There are a lot of things that your pharmacist may say is safe but your OB would highly NOT recommend. You can call them and ask them without having to go in and see them.
Each person is different and each pregnancy is different, just to be safe don't take any advice on here except to consult with your doctor on what you should be taking! They and only they will know best!

If the discharge was sticky-ish, like trying to clump together, then yes it was prob your mucus plug. I don't know about your cervix opening and then closing, but if your doctor didn't seem concerned then I would imagine your body just isn't ready yet. And that may indeed have been you water breaking more - call your OB or go to the hospital to get checked ASAP. Your baby needs that 'water sac' to be healthy in there, so if you think it's coming out drip by drip, you need to get to the hospital and see if you're in early labor.

You can call a 24 hour pharmacy and ask them. Although, they might tell you to ask a doctor. Also, you really don't need to buy a book, you can always search the net. Quick and easy. Congrats on your baby.
