I have been trying to decide which US-released Miyazaki movies I should get on DVD soon. I am a big fan if Miyazaki's compelling stories and wonderful art, but I want to find out which of his films are the best to own on DVD.

All of them are really good, masterpieces.
Howl's Moving Castle-great story, moving and has a lot of romance.
Spirited Away-my favorite Miyazaki film. The animation is beautiful, the story is touching and in my opinion the best animated movie of all time.
Totoro-very good, touching and cute.
Princess Mononoke-really really good. Takes place in ancient Japan and one of most famous anime movies
Valley of the Wind-one of the older movies, but still a classic.

I personally thought Spirited-away was the best Animation film ever made. Princess Mononoke was Awesome too. I haven't or had much enthusiasm to watch his older films yet, but Im sure they are pretty good too. but Not as good as the new ones I think ;)
If you like 1. Adventures, and with great lessons to learn from = Spirited Away
2. Romance = Howl's Moving Castle
3. Mystery/Faith/War = Princess Mononoke

If you want something different, try Pom Poko, the charming story of a big group of raccoons who are trying to save their habitat from development. The animation is cool because the raccoons have the ability to morph from "realistic" to 2-legged, tubby, straight-up cartoony creatures - but when they are in their more anthropomorphic bodies the males have giant balls. No joke.

they are all absolutely AMAZING, but the art and storylines in spirited away are unparalleled. i have seen it at least 10 times and it gets better each time :)

All of them!!!!!!!!!!!1 personally my favorite is my neighbor ToToRo its awsome! Spirited away and princess manonoke are also good.
