Here is my problem with them.... The go to Britain on tour and make political statements to win over new fans. (They have a right to say whatever they like.) They come back and face the rage of their American fan base which is comprised mostly of social conservatives sympathetic to Bush. Not good if you want to sell records. They quickly issue a statement of regret about what they said. Then Hollywood celebrities that don't support the war chastise the American public for not letting them speak their mind. Emboldened by this, they change their mind again. I really don't pay attention much to the political views of musicians; however, make up your mind. Money motivates their thought.

I've always stood behind the Dixie Chicks. The conservatives only believe in free speech if the person speaking agrees with them. One of their main complaints is that celebrities shouldn't say anything political in public and they should just "shut up and sing" but whenever Toby Keith opens his mouth and praises Bush its all of a sudden ok for a celebrity to talk about politics in public. Talk about hypoocricy. I am thrilled that the Dixie Chicks won last night. Good for them for standing up for what they believe in AND making a great album!!

If I am a big fan of a particular singer, but get offended by something this person has said, I have every right to not want to listen to their music any more. I even have a right to express my opinion by calling radio stations saying I'd boycot the station if they played that artist.
You may not agree with how I choose to use my freedom of speech, but many did not agree with how the Dixie Chicks choose to use their freedom of speech.

Johnny has said that he loves America and is very grateful for all the opportunities he's been given here, and for the right to be able to have differing opinions than those in office. He has houses in America and in France, and also in other locations. His children often travel with him and are fortunate to be able to see the world. However, if they spend the majority of their time outside America, usually in France, it is because their mother is a French citizen and lives and cares for them there. Also, he is trying to protect them from the limelight and paparazzi and rumors and hype that is rampant in America. He chose his life and accepts that as some of the consequences - but they didn't choose it and shouldn't have their lives spread out for the world to see. But, your personal attack on him aside, yes, you do have the right to choose how you spend your money, and if you chose not to put it into areas where people you disagree with might benefit from it that is your right. Just like Johnny, Natalie, Emily, and Martie have their rights.

It's kind of funny that people got upset at what the Dixie Chicks sang about and bought all of that merchandise to burn and break it. So it's OK for them to protest the Dixie Chicks but not the Dixie Chicks to protest what the government is doing to those people? Seems a bit hypocritical and ignorant to me....

I never did care for their music, but I do respect that they spoke out and I do share their thoughts. Free speech should never be given to only a chosen few. It is the right of all Americans.

It shouldn't be okay or not okay to like the Dixie Chicks. Only you can know if you like them or not...it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

It is OK to believe what ever you want. It is not about free speech for those who were upset...that is a fallacy! There are many other issues behind it. But why should anyone care if it is "OK" to like them or not. If you like them, you like them, if you don't, you don't. If you were offended you, were offended, if you were not, you were not! Why let others opinions rule your life????
