hotmail. is a free account anyone can sign up for. MSN is, I believe, an account you pay for.

Hotmail is free. You pay for MSN Internet service and get a free email account.

Both Hotmail and MSN are free, if you want to make an @msn.com email, here's the link: https://accountservices.passport.net/reg.srf?ns=msn.com&sl=1&lc=1033
The free account has 1 GB mailbox space and 10 MB for attachment.
The premium account has 2 GB and 20 MB for attachment.

i don't know about the capacity of msn nor the layout
but the major difference is that when you want to sign in you have to specify weather your e-mail is Hotmail or MSN
