I'm going to India (Punjab) in a little while and am really confused about whether or not i should be taking anti-malarial drugs. Some people I've talked to say it's not neccessary and that malaria is almost eradicated from there. Other people say it's absolutely nessesary to take. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Absolutely take it. It is always better to be safe than sorry. It may be true that malaria is almost non-existent in India. But in a country where hygiene is not as good as that of other countries, and millions of people still die from who knows what, and many are also devastingly poor, you never know what else could be going around there. I have never been to India myself, but I have neighbors who are natives of India that have told me much about India, and personally, I would be very cautious.

Better be safe than be sorry. Plus u dont have to go through the rituals of multiple painful shots for that. A couple of tabs a week would do the trick just the same.

Malaria is not uncommon in India, but thanks to the medical advancement, one hardly notices it. Plus its very easily treated and is no more considered a dreaded disease.

Its more common in rural India, but in urban areas, thanks to the usage of mosquito-repellants, its incidence has come down.
